Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State may
have commenced wooing clergymen in the
state with monetary inducements to vote for
his re-election and his party during the
general elections.
It is said that the governor has been offering
each clergyman a sum of N10 million for the
purpose.
The governor, who hosted over 600 Bishops
and Pastors at the Sam Mbakwe Expanded
Exco Hall in Government House, Owerri,
begged them to forgive him for demolishing
some of their churches last year.
The meeting, the source said, became very
rowdy when Governor Okorocha announced
that his government had paid compensations
to the affected churches, a claim immediately
debunked by the clergymen.
He, however, pleaded with them to convince
their followers to vote for him, assuring them
that his administration would allot lands to
them free and Certificate of Occupancy issued
to them without further delay.
In a related development, Governor Okorocha,
at every campaign rally he went, promised to
doled out the sum of N10 million and N20
million, respectively, to any community where
his party received the highest number of
votes.
He also promised to release N50 million and a
brand new bus to any Ward that the party
scored the highest number of votes.
