As the general election scheduled for next
month draws closer, unknown personss have
attacked the secretariat of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), in Abam Ama, Okrika Local
Government Area of Rivers State and blown it
up with dynamites, just as three party
members in Rumueme, in Obio/Akpor local
government area were inflicted with machete
cuts while preparing for a rally.
According to Christian Asifamaka, party
chairman for Okrika, the assailants attacked
the secretariat with dynamites at about 3.14
am, and destroyed it with the chairman’s
office being worst hit.
“In the early hours of Sunday, January 11,
2015, some unknown persons threw
dynamites into the secretariat of the All
Progressives Congress in Abam Ama, Okrika
Local Government Area.
“The explosion which occurred at 3:14 am,
demolished the walls. The damage was quite
extensive with the Chairman’s office being
the worst hit.
“The All Progressives Congress in Okrika
views this latest attack as a deliberate
provocation by our opponents, the People’s
Democratic Party to draw the APC into a battle
that would destabilise our beloved local
government area. This is unfortunate and the
APC would not allow Okrika to become a
hotbed of crises as the PDP wishes.
Asifamaka added, “We, as Okrika people,
know what political crises had cost us in the
past. Our local government area has always
been the worst hit during politics.
Our young
children are the ones they use as cannon
fodder. We know this and, as a party, have
resolved to tow only the path of peace in the
interest of our land and children.”
He alleged that “The PDP’s resort to violence
is due to the fact that they know that Okrika
people have rejected them because of their
inability to attract any meaningful
development to the local government area.
