On Tuesday, 18 November, a woman in hijab
allegedly kidnapped four children, and disappeared
thereafter.
Residents of the Yemetu area of Ibadan, who had
seen the kidnapper with the four children became
irate after realizing that she was nowhere to be
found.
An angry mob, demanding that the police produce
the missing children, had to be dispersed using
canisters of tear gas.
Oyo State police spokesperson Olabisi Ilobanafor
confirmed the report, saying that investigation
into the matter had commenced, to apprehend the
alleged kidnapper and the recover the missing
children.
She said: “The allegation was brought to us that
one woman with hijab, kidnapped four children.
We are investigating and the investigation will
reveal whether it is true or not.”
Ilobanafor also appealed to members of the
public to allow the law take its normal course,
rather than take the law into their hands.
The Divisional Police Officer at Yemetu, Abure
David, also reacted to the incident, saying that
the case had been brought to the notice of the
police. He disclosed that he had deployed three
patrol teams to search for the children.
