There was widespread jubilation, fanfare and
fireworks display in the Odoakpu Area of
Onitsha North and South Local Government
area of, Anambra State, Friday night, as a
young man, Master Ebuka Okanumee, who died
on Tuesday, was said to have resurrected from
the mortuary where his body was kept.
Our correspondent, who visited the home of the
young man Saturday Morning at the New
Market Road, Onitsha, spoke with some
residents who confirmed the story, but parents
and other close family members of the
deceased kept sealed lips on the issue.
The late Master Ebuka Okanumee, who until his
death, Tuesday, was the Senior Prefect of
Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha,
was alleged to have been killed in the school
premises on Tuesday during a scuffle with a
fellow student, whose name was given as
Chukwuma Chukwunweike, an SS One Student.
The School Principal, Mr. Ralph Machi, who
confirmed the incident to our correspondent,
said the late Master Okanumee died after being
hit on the chest by the suspect, whom he
accosted for being improperly dressed and
coming to school with handsets.
Following the widespread jubilation and reports
that he had resurrected and the refusal of the
parents to speak with our correspondent, our
correspondent visited the General Hospital
Mortuary, Onitsha, where the body was said to
have been deposited.
Speaking with our correspondent, the mortician,
Mr. Emmanuel Onuigbo, dispelled the rumours
and said that the mortuary was besieged last
night by hundreds of people who were beating
drums, celebrating and rejoicing that Ebuka has
risen from the dead.
Mr. Onuigbo expressed surprise at the reports
and even led our correspondent inside the
mortuary where the body of the young man
was lying stone dead, adding that he embalmed
the body when it was brought there on
Tuesday, and that it has not even moved an
inch since then.
