A 32-year-old trader, Olajuwon Badmus, who allegedly inserted his finger into the vagina of an eight-year-old girl, was on Thursday arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.F Adeeyo, however, granted Badmus bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must have a letter of recommendation from a community or religious leader.

Adeeyo ordered that the case file should be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case till May 9.

Badmus, who resides at Shomolu area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on child rape and sexual harassment.

The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Rita Momah, had told the court that the accused committed the offences in December 2015 at No 7, Adedoyin St., Palmgroove, Shomolu, Lagos,

Momah alleged that the accused trailed the girl and lured her into his room where he inserted his finger in her private part before he had sexual intercourse with her.

“Badmus took advantange of the girl’s innocence and defiled her thereby caused her injuries, “he said.

Momah said the offence contravened Sections 137, 261 and 267 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
