Owerri – There was mayhem at Ohaji- Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State weekend, when cultists killed nine people while avenging the killing of one their members by another rival group.
The victims including eight males and one female were killed when the DEYWELL cult group reportedly invaded Assa Awara community and killed eight men and killed another woman at Obitte community.
This was even as a traditional ruler and two other of his accomplices were detained at the Owerri, the Imo State capital for allegedly killing one Joseph Ihueze over a parcel of land in the same area.
Police sources said that the deceased who was insane inherited a large portion of land from his father, but the traditional ruler and two other persons killed him to enable them take over the land.
The killing of Ihueze, however, irked youths who revolted against the traditional ruler causing tension in the area.
However, the killing of the nine persons was said to have been carried out by DEYWELL against the DEYGBAM cult group, which was alleged to have killed one of the DEYWELL members in the area.
Police sources which confirmed the story said that armed security operatives had been deployed to the troubled place to fish out the culprits.
