A woman has met her untimely death at the hands of an abusive lover in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.According to the police, the 28-year-old Togolese woman, identified as Lamin Isah, died after her Tipper driver lover, Kabiru Bakare, doused her with petrol and set her on fire after a heated argument.
The fire also burnt Kabiru's friend, Ahmed Muyideen who was trying to contain the situation. He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.Isah who is a mother of two, was in a relationship with Bakare.
The two started dating after he separated from his first wife and mother of his three children.The lovers were said to have had a misunderstanding on March 13, 2016, at the Tipper Park at Alakia.
Bakare then asked Lamin to go to her residence.After she left, Kabiru asked Muyideen to follow him to a place, only for them to turn up at Lamin’s residence.Muyideen who narrated the incident from hishospital bed disclosed that Kabiru was holding a gallon of petrol, saying it was meant for his generator.
At Lamin’s house, a fresh argument broke out between the lovers, resulting in Bakare slapping the deceased who grabbed him by the knickers.Muyideen jumped in preventing his friend from beating her the more and castigated him for hitting a woman.
But Bakare managed to throw a heavy punch, grabbed his keg then doused his lover in fuel.
She caught fire after she stumbled near the stoveof a co-tenant. Muyideen also caught fire and they both suffered severe burns.The victims were rushed to a hospital in the city where Isah died five days later.
Policemen from the Egbeda Division were arrested Kabiru at the hospital premises, while the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku,Ibadan, for further investigation.
