Armed kidnappers on Tuesday abducted 72-
year-old Inegite Jonathan, an uncle and foster
father to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The septuagenarian was once kidnapped on
February 28, 2014 and later rescued by
security forces at Akipli community in Ogbia
on March 10, 2014.
Mr. Jonathan was reportedly kidnapped at
10pm on Tuesday at his residence in Otuoke,
Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa
State.
A relation of the victim, Oru Solomon,
confirmed the abduction, appealing to the
kidnappers to free the man in
because of his old age.
The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police
Command, Asini Butswat, also confirmed the
incident, saying the police were trailing the
kidnappers.
The state governor, Seriake Dickson, had in
his first tenure in office signed the anti-
kidnapping law, prescribing death sentence
for kidnapping.
No conviction has yet been made since the
introduction of the law, while the crime
flourishes in the region.
