Though the presidential candidate of the
All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen
Muhammadu Buhari, is slated to speak at
the prestigious Chatham House in London
today, certain Nigerians in the diaspora
have allegedly been mobilised by the
Presidency to organise a rally to
embarrass Buhari at the venue.
This was disclosed in a letter made
available to LEADERSHIP last night by the
Buhari’s campaign organisation which
claimed that it got the letter from some
of those hired for the protest in London.
The letter was written by Chief Peter
Mozie, the assistant director, Civil Society
and Supports Groups, to Prof Nick Eze,
the director, Civil Society and Support
Groups in Nigeria, while the letter was
copied to the Special Adviser to the
President on Political Affairs, Prof Rufai
Ahmed Alkali.
The letter, entitled, Re: “The Chatham
House Rally, March Against Dictator” gave
detailed programmes of how the
mobilised Nigerians in diaspora would
start chanting anti-Buhari and anti-
military songs between 9am and 9.30am.
The letter added that the Nigerians in
diaspora would paint Buhari as a ruthless
dictator who will never change while as
the same time highlighting the
achievements of President Goodluck
Jonathan and the need for his re-election
for him to continue his transformation
agenda.
It further disclosed that the Nigerians
would stay at Chatham House and
continue to chant anti-Buhari songs until
the event is over, and insist that “the
world must know a dictator has come to
Chatham House, that a ruthless killer has
come to Chatham House.”
But the author of the letter also
demanded $20,000 to defray the cost of
logistics, refreshments, mobilisation and
necessary permit for the rally.
According to the letter, some of the
talking points of the rally are:
1. Buhari is an unrepentant dictator who
will never change no matter the number of
suits he wears.
2. Buhari overthrew our democracy and
ruled Nigeria despotically, subverting
human rights, imprisoning the innocent
and jailing the late Nigeria’s foremost
musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and
innocent journalists for no just reason.
3. The rally will remind the international
community about Buhari’s dictatorial
leaning from 1983-1984 when many
innocent Nigerians were killed our
democracy raped and Nigerian
constitution suspended.
4. The rally will also draw the attention
of opinion leaders and diplomats in the
United Kingdom that Buhari should not be
in Chatham House but facing war crimes
at The Hague before the International
Criminal Court (ICC).
5. Above all to draw the attention of the
international community to the fact that
Nigerians had rejected Buhari thrice
before and will still reject him for the 4th
time; in essence, to tell the whole world
that Nigerians reject Buhari.
