The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)
has reacted to speculations over the
postponement of the elections scheduled to hold
on February 14, 2015.

Buhari who has, alongside his party, expressed
opposition to any form of postponement, spoke
with YNaija.com moments ago to reiterate his
opposition to INEC’s alleged plans.

Buhari warned that citizens should avoid getting
ahead of INEC saying the Commission is yet to
make an official pronouncement on the issue.

“INEC has made no official announcement yet and
until then, we wait,” he said.

Buhari, however, used the opportunity to reiterate
his resolve against any such decision by
INCE saying he “won’t support a postponement.”

According to the former head of state: “It has
taken INEC one year to plan so why postpone?”

“There are over 770 local government areas in
Nigeria and they claim to postpone because of
14?” he queried.

Asked what his plan of action would be if the
postponement turns out to be true, Buhari said it
is his party’s decision to take.

Meanwhile, the international community and US
authorities have strongly advised against a
postponement of the elections by INEC.

The United States called for Nigeria’s presidential
elections to be held on time as INEC weighs a
delay over difficulty distributing voter cards.

The US supports “peaceful, free, transparent and
credible electoral processes in Nigeria and renews
its calls on all candidates, their supporters and
Nigerian citizens to reject election-related
violence,” deputy State Department spokeswoman,
Marie Harf said in a statement.

“The United States also looks to Nigeria to hold
these elections on time.”

The presidential election is scheduled for
Saturday, February 14.
