The Police in Damaturu, the
Yobe State capital, have
confirmed that seven persons
were killed on Sunday when a
suspected female suicide
bomber struck at a busy motor
park.
The Commissioner of Police,
Marcus Danladi, who confirmed
the casualty figure said 32
others sustained injuries and
were evacuated to the main
hospital in the town for
treatment.
However, a rescue worker
involved in the evacuation of
victims of the blast said he
counted ten corpses.
The staff, who declined to be
quoted because he is not
permitted to talk on the matter,
also said 56 persons were
injured and were taken to the
hospital.
The female suicide bomber was
reportedly dropped off by a lone
male driver at the motor park
which is also located near a
market.
Suicide attack by young girls
have been on the rise, especially
in Kano, Borno, Yobe and
Gombe states.
Recently, a young girl who
failed to detonate her explosive
vest in Kano informed the police
that she was handed over to
members of the Boko Haram
sect by her parent for the
suicide mission.
