Violence erupted on Saturday, January 10, as
angry youths in Jos burnt a Peoples Democratic
Party branded bus and vandalised other cars.
According to reports, the violence was in protest
of the candidacy of Gyang Pwajok, the PDP
governorship candidate in Plateau state.
Pwajok is the current senator representing the Jos
North senatorial district, and was former SSG to
outgoing governor, Jonah Jang.
The protesters reportedly alleged that Pwajok was
imposed on the state by his former boss, Jang.
Therefore, his return to the state on Saturday,
infuriated PDP youths belonging to another
faction in the state, who then resorted to
destruction and violence to signify their
dissatisfaction.
The PDP primaries in various states were
reportedly marred by irregularities, leading to the
rise of various factions within the states.
Recently, the PDP National Chairman, Adamu
Mu’azu, released a statement, where he told the
President that the party was “full of injustice”,
and should stop the culture of “use and dump”.
