A constitutional lawyer and former governorship
aspirant in Ondo State, Dr Tunji Abayomi, has
told President Goodluck Jonathan that Nigerians
are tired of the embarrassment caused by Boko
Haram in the country.
The lawyer, who wrote a letter to the president
on behalf of Nigerian citizens, said Nigerians
had watched with great embarrassment the Boko
Haram sect casting their nation’s honour to the
dust with aggressive and unbearable mass
killings.
He added that the country was already in a
terrible and helpless situation with frequent
attacks from the insurgents.
“If Nigerians must die, must they die like dogs,
Mr President?” he queried.
“As citizens of this republic, we no longer know
what really is happening to the government; we
do not understand what is going on in our
‘tactical withdrawal’ military, which appears to
be at war against itself instead of against Boko
Haram.
“Where, Mr President, was government when
over 20,000sq/kms of Nigerian land was
occupied by a boastful insurgents that mock the
pride of our nation, her previously highly
regarded army and her peoples? Where was
government, we ask you, Mr President, when
Boko Haram took over Gulani, when it captured
Gujba, when it acquired Gwoza, when it
conquered Gamboru and Dikwa, when it declared
authority over Bama and Kala-balge, when it laid
waste Michika and Madagali?” he further asked.
He said the country is tormented by empty
assurances of freedom that have left over 200
girls in the hands of their terrorising captors for
over 203 days, in a place or places their parents
cannot reach.
He added, “These girls are our daughters; they
are our beloved. Mr President, they are asking
you in their troubles; they demand an answer:
where is government? The hundreds of men of
the Army, Police, Customs, Immigration as well
as countless displaced citizens are asking you,
Mr President, where is government?”
