A 26-year-old student of the Yaba College
of Technology, Usman Oloyede, was on
Wednesday charged before a Yaba
Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over the
membership of an unlawful fraternity and
threat to life.

The accused whose residential address
was not disclosed, is being tried on a five-
count charge of conspiracy, unlawful
fraternity, threat to life, impersonation
and a breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chris Takim, told
the court that the accused and others still
at large, between 2008 and Sept. 23,
2014 at the Yaba College of Technology,
conspired to organise a secret society
known and called “EIYE”.

Takim alleged that the accused and his
accomplices on Sept. 23, sent a text
message through cell phone no
08036004858 to the Rector of the college,
one Dr.Margaret Ladipo, threatening to kill
her.

He submitted that the accused on Sept.
20, falsely presented himself as a
graduate of the college and an assistant
supervisor of one of the college’s final-
year students’ project at the State
Criminal Investigation Department, Panti,
Yaba.
Takim told the court that the accused and
his accomplices, with the intent to cause
disturbance, conducted themselves in a
manner likely to cause a breach of public
peace at the college.

The prosecutor said the offences
contravened Sections 40, 42, 230, 378
and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos
State, 2011.

Oloyede, however, pleaded not guilty to
the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.A Oshibanjo,
granted the accused bail in the sum of
N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

Oshinbanjo, then, adjourned the case to
Nov. 28, for substantive trial (NAN)
