The chairman Senate Committee on
Privatization, Senator Gbenga Obadara,
Wednesday ordered search of journalists shortly
after an interactive session over his missing ”
China smart phone ” in Kano.
Senator Obadara and some members of his
commitee was in Kano in one of the oversight
functions at the headquarters of Kano Electrical
Distribution Company located at Post office road.
Wait it gets better:
Trouble started immediately after an interactive
session with over 30 members of the pen
profession when he alerted the management of
the Power firm of the development.
Acting on the instruction of his superior, the
Image maker of Kano Electrical Distribution, Alhaji
Mukhtar Baffa seizes the microphone and
requested “gentlemen, we don’t intend to
embarrass any of you but I am sorry, you will
have to submit yourselves for search over senator
missing phone”.
Heavily armed policemen were subsequently
drafted inside the conference hall for the search
operations on the hapless Journalists.
A hefty combat ready police officer who
conducted the operation spelt out the rule of the
game as he hoarded the Reporters in one side of
the conference hall and was ready to pick one
after the other before a message from outside the
hall announced the discovery of the missing
handset.
There was relief after the discovery as the
leadership of the Journalists demand a written
apology from the management of Kano Electrical
Distribution Company.
The chairman of Correspondent chapel, Mr.
Francis Edwin Olofu described the incident as
“totally demeaning, provocative and uncalled for”.
However, the Public Relations Manager of Kano
Electrical Distribution Company, Alhaji Mukhtar
Baffa appealed for understanding, pointing out
that “it was not meant to humiliate members of
pen profession.
