Denying a soldier sex, pray he doesn't use force.
South Sudanese women have decided that the
best way to end the civil war in their nation is to
deny the men sex until they stop fighting.
During a meeting of a group of South Sudanese
women peace activists and several members of
South Sudan’s parliament, in Juba, to come up
with ways to advance the cause of peace, healing
and reconciliation, it was suggested that denying
sex to the men could prove helpful.
The organisers said in a statement that they will
“mobilise all women in South Sudan to deny their
husbands conjugal rights until they ensure that
peace returns.”
They also stated that they will meet the wives of
President Salva Kiir and rebel leader, Riek Machar,
to urge them to join the search for peace and
reconciliation by impressing upon their husbands
to stop the war.
Tobias Atari Okori, of the South Sudan ‘Peace and
Reconciliation Commission, noted that the idea
showed the desperation of the women for the war
to end as soon as possible.
While speaking to AFP, he said, “People are
experiencing great suffering, and it is the women,
children and the aged who are suffering the
worst.”
Since the war started, thousands of civilians have
been killed and massacred, while almost two
million have fled the war between government
troops, mutinous soldiers and tribal militia forces.
