Speaking exclusively to Sahara Sports ahead of the two crucially important games against Sudan, which will determine the Eagles’ future in the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, Okocha also said he was having a funny feeling about the whole situation regarding the team’s chances of making it to Morocco. Okocha, who used to criticize Keshi on numerous occasions, for example during the World Cup, was quoted saying:
“Of course the coach should be held responsible because it his duty to psyche the boys up, to raise their energy levels, and also to play the right players with the right attitude.”
It would be recalled that after Nigeria’s winning match against South Africa, which gave currently a single point to the Eagles in Group A, the ex-player said:
“I woke up feeling gloomy. Football is all I know, it is 95% of my life. The feeling is natural. Our football generally is in total shambles.”
Nigeria should win both October games against Sudan in order to have a realistic chance to proceed to the tournament in Morocco. Many believe that future of Stephen Keshi, who is currently operating on a match-by-match basis, in the position of the Eagles coach depends on the outcome of these matches.
